Best Fast Food Value Menus (2026)

A good value menu is not the cheapest thing on the board — it is the most food for the least money. We compared the value menus of all 18 chains we cover, using prices already verified on our own chain pages, and ranked them by what you actually get. Every figure below comes from our McDonald’s value, Wendy’s value, Sonic value and other chain guides. Prices vary by location, because most chains are franchised.

Value Menus Ranked: What Actually Fills You Up

If you want one meal that covers lunch, the top three are easy to pick. McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal gives you a sandwich, fries, nuggets and a drink for five bucks — the most complete bundle at the lowest price. Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag is the same idea with a different sandwich lineup, and it scales cleanly to $6, $7 and $8 if you want a bigger sandwich. Sonic’s $7 Big Deal Meal costs two dollars more, but it swaps the nuggets for a sundae and the fries for tots or fries, and its component prices total $15.96 if bought separately.

Del Taco is the outlier. Its value menu is not a bundle at all — it is a long list of cheap singles. A Bean & Cheese Burrito (officially $1 at launch, typically $1.99–$2.89 in-store now) plus a $1.29 Snack Taco is a real meal for under $5, and the $5 Clásico El Big Box is a full lunch for five bucks. If you eat at Del Taco, skip the delivery apps: our Del Taco page found a $1.89 Snack Taco crossing $2.49 on DoorDash.

For sit-down chains, the math changes. Texas Roadhouse Early Dine is the best steakhouse value in the country: a hand-cut steak dinner with two sides and free rolls for typically $10.99–$13.99, Mon–Thu 3–6 PM, dine-in only. Applebee’s 2 for $25 is the best deal for two people — one appetizer and two entrées for $25 flat. Olive Garden’s $6 Take-Home Entrée is the smartest add-on anywhere: order any entrée, add tomorrow’s lunch for six bucks.

Chain-by-Chain Value Menu Breakdown

Burger chains. McDonald’s leans on the $5 Meal Deal and the under-$3 McValue list (McChicken, McDouble, Hash Browns, 4pc McNuggets, Sausage McMuffin, and more). Wendy’s leans on Biggie Deals ($4/$6/$8) and Biggie Bags. The old 4 for $4 was scaled back to a Jr. Cheeseburger-only option and replaced by the Biggie Deals lineup. Whataburger’s More for $4 lineup launched August 18, 2026, and the $3 upgrade to a full meal is the best $3 in fast food.

Chicken chains. Popeyes’ $5 Faves runs Oct 5 – Dec 5, 2026, with three $5 options: 2pc chicken & biscuit, 3 tenders, or 2 sides (2 sides digital-exclusive). Chick-fil-A has no value menu, so its best value is the 8ct Nuggets at $6.59–$7.39 — protein-heavy and shareable. Raising Cane’s has no value menu either; the 3 Finger Combo at $8.79–$9.59 is the lowest-priced full combo, and the Box Combo at $10.49–$14.99 is the better meal. Zaxby’s Finger Plates start at $8.39–$10.29 for four fingers with all the sides. Bojangles’ cheapest full meal is the 2pc Leg & Thigh dinner at $5.60–$6.30, and its Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich at $2.99 is the cheapest sandwich on any chicken chain’s menu. Dave’s Hot Chicken has no formal value menu, but the #4 combo ($10.49–$11.89), a Single Tender ($4.99–$5.79) and 10pc Bites ($7.99–$8.49) are the cheap ways in.

Coffee and smoothies. Seven Brew is not cheap for fancy drinks — the 7 Originals run $6.18–$8.19 — but the House Blend at $2.50–$4.50 is genuinely cheap coffee, and Rewards gives you a free drink every 10 visits. Smoothie King’s Angel Food 20oz at $5.89 is one of the cheapest full-size blends, and kids 12oz smoothies run $4.59–$6.29.

Sit-down value. LongHorn’s lunch combos ($8.49–$10.99) and lunch plates ($9.99–$14.49), plus the Pick Two Combo at $11.99, are the cheapest way to eat steakhouse food. Twin Peaks’ weekday lunch starts at $7.99 for Chicken Snackers, and happy hour shareables drop to $6.00. How to Get the Most Out of Any Value Menu

Order in the app, not on a delivery app. Delivery markups are the single biggest value-menu killer. A Bojangles $11 combo becomes $13–$15 on DoorDash. A Dave’s #2 is $14.99 direct versus about $17–$19 delivered. The food is the same; the price is not.

Use the rewards program with the value menu. Wendy’s gives 10 points per $1, so a $5 Biggie Bag still earns points toward a free Small Frosty at 250 points. Dave’s gives 10 points per $1. Seven Brew gives 100 points per drink, and 1,000 points is a free drink worth $6–$8. Chick-fil-A One pays 10–13 points per $1 depending on tier. The value menu gets you the cheap meal; the app turns it into a free one later.

Time your visit. Lunch windows are where sit-down value lives: Texas Roadhouse Early Dine (Mon–Thu 3–6 PM), LongHorn lunch (Mon–Sat 11 AM–3 PM), Olive Garden lunch (weekdays until 3 PM), Twin Peaks lunch (Mon–Fri 11 AM–2 PM). Miss the window and the same food costs several dollars more.

For groups, skip individual value meals. Bojangles’ 12pc Chicken Meal at $37.99 feeds 4–6. Cane’s Tailgate packs and Dave’s Hot Boxes beat buying five separate combos. Olive Garden’s family-style pans (Spaghetti with Meat Sauce $46.99–$48.99, serves 4–6) do the same job.

Value Menu Traps to Skip

The upsell at the counter. A $5 meal deal is a good deal. A $5 meal deal plus a large drink upgrade, an extra sauce, and a dessert is a $10 meal. The chains make their money on the add-ons, not the bundle.

Delivery-app versions of value deals. Some deals do not exist on delivery apps at all, and the ones that do carry markups. If a deal is app-only (Del Taco’s $6.99 Fresh Deal, Sonic’s half-price drinks), use the chain’s own app, not DoorDash.

Assuming the deal is permanent. Value lineups rotate. Popeyes’ $6 Big Box promo ended around Sep 27, 2026 — the regular Big Box is $6.99 now. McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal is confirmed through December 2026, not forever. Check the date before you drive over.
