Is Sonic Open on Christmas Day?

🎄 No — Sonic is closed on Christmas Day (December 25, 2026). This is the one holiday every source agrees on: Sonic closes chain-wide so crews can spend the day with family. Plan around it — no drive-in, no app orders, no delivery that day.

Christmas Eve is a different story: most locations stay open but with reduced hours, many closing early between 4:00 and 8:00 PM (whathours.com, May 2026). If you want a pre-Christmas shake run, go early in the day and confirm your location’s closing time first.

Is Sonic Open on Thanksgiving?

This is the trickiest holiday on the calendar. Reports genuinely split:

🦃 Thanksgiving (Nov 26, 2026): it depends

Some Sonic drive-ins stay open on Thanksgiving; many franchisees close. whathours.com (May 2026) lists Thanksgiving as “varies by location,” while generic location aggregators often show “closed.” There is no chain-wide rule — each franchise owner decides. Do not assume either way: check the Sonic app or call your local drive-in that morning.

The day after Thanksgiving is easy: Black Friday runs normal hours everywhere.

Sonic Holiday Hours: How to Check Your Local Drive-In

Because holiday hours are a franchise decision, the fastest checks are:
